What Should Your Workplace Learn from COVID-19: Impressions
During the last 12 months, the business has changed in a way we couldn’t have imagined before. The uncertainty made us do things we had never done before. Yes, it was challenging, but it also helped expand our views and made us grow. So, what has our workplace learned from COVID-19?
From Challenges to Improvement
We talked about the lessons during the COVID-19 with the CEO and a Chief Storyteller of Menlo Innovation, Rich Sheridan, at our webinar on March the 25th. Menlo’s unique approach to custom software creation is so amazing that 3,000 people from around the world come to talk to him just to see how they do it and learn something new. These practices also had to be changed due to the pandemic, and this is what Rich shared at the webinar.
Three Learnings During the COVID-19 from Menlo Innovations
Heartcount co-founder Alexander Kjerulf was the host at the webinar and really enjoyed talking to Rich. He especially appreciated three of his learnings:
- COVID-19 had forced them to try things they normally would NEVER have done, like working from home or giving virtual tours... but it turned out that these things absolutely worked and that they will keep on doing them post-COVID-19.
- When the challenge like this hits a workplace, many of your practices have to change, but the underlying values they serve remain the same. At Menlo they wanted to create joy and happiness at work... and that didn’t change, but the methods they used to achieve them absolutely had to change.
- Set your people free to try new things out. Run the experiment. Then improve it until it works.
What Will the Workplace Look Like After Covid-19?
Once again, we had a chance to see that we can’t predict the future. Instead, we should focus on things we can change - us. It has always been important how fast the company can adapt to the new market conditions and the last year put the whole world on a test.
Our guest, Rich, pointed out that being open-minded is an important lesson he was taught during the pandemic. To ensure growth, you need to try new practices at work while maintaining your company’s core values. Watch the webinar video to find out what challenging situations made Menlo Innovation employees create new approaches to work that they will apply even after the pandemic.
